Good Friday Meditation

Well, obviously this blog needs a bit of dusting, so I thought that as Good Friday approaches (Two weeks from now) I'd like to post a quote of GK Chesterton that would be of relevance.

Freedom...

Trying to fight a small fever, work on my report and listen to Joan Baez singing "Me and Bobby Mc Gee" at the same time, I had to pause at the part where Baez sang "Freedom's just another word for 'nothing left to lose'...".
I had heard that same statement paraphrased by Pandita Ramabhai from Pune, who started an orphanage for children of prostitution. There is nothing romantic about that line at all. I couldn't work after listening to that line for lack of brain-space. So I decided to drop everything and start putting these crazy thoughts in my head onto blogspace.
Freedom, when nothing, or nobody (except Christ) has a hold on your will, is beautiful. As a man who loves is friends and family a lot and respects their opinions, I would find it very difficult to bend my will to God's all the time, especially if my friendship is on the line. Until now, I haven't faced such situations. I find it hard enough to walk according to God's will at times, when my own self comes in the way.
That's when it struck me. Though we Christians (most of us) aren't, we are called to be self-destructive. We sing "Less of me and more of You". But do we do what we say? Don't we try at every turn to please ourselves? To make our lives more comfortable? Ever since our birth, our parents have given us the best they could for us. The best education, food and lifestyle they could afford. After we are able to stand on our own two feet, don't we try to get the best paying job so that we can do the same for ourselves? We aim for a higher economic class, a tastier meal, a more sophisticated lifestyle. We add all these to our personality. Christ on the other hand taught us to hate ourselves. To put all that effort of self-love for the construction of His Kingdom. When you are able to deny yourself EVERYTHING, will you experience true freedom. Most of the time, we work so hard in pursuit of happyness, when if we give that area to God, true joy will come our way.
These are just random thoughts, Couldn't put them in order. Hope you could make sense of it.
